Saturday 21st January ESL Att:052 Stansted 1 Basildon United 2 A long awaited 2nd league win of the season which was well overdue after many good performances of late won by hardwork and some quality play in the 1st half could have seen Bees 4 or 5 up at the break as Basildon put in their best half since Woods arrival. Dave Ade followed up a Matthews shot to tap home the parry from the keeper after only 8 mins. Ade had 2 more great chances hitting wide on both occasions before the hardworking Aggio picked the ball up 30 yards out and hit a superb half volley high into the roof of the net on 32 mins to give Basildon a deserved 2-0 lead. It could have been better had Lindsays diving header not gone inches wide from a great Baines left sided cross just before half time. Basildons dominance was shown as Dawson in the Basildon goal signed from Blue Square Bishops Stortford only had one save to make all game and save he did from a 63rd min penalty diving full strech to parry away only to see his save struck home by the onrushing Stansted forward to make it 2-1. Basildon held out well with sub Paevie racing away but a poor final touch took him away from goal. Chris Rothan a midweek signing from London Apsa had a fine debut at center half as bees looked solid in defence. Wood said 'This win has been coming for weeks now we have been the better passing side in games but all to often have been undone by mistakes.. we have worked really hard in training and our application is 1st class. Its all about how we back this win up in our next game away to Burnham in the cup on Tuesday week. Its pleasing that our search for players is paying off today Dawson, Rothon and Moore all good examples of the competition for places that we need. A big well done to us all!'. Saturday 14th January ESL Att:042 Basildon United 2 Eton Manor 3 Another loss with more basic errors its simple if Basildon cut the errors out they will start to win games as going forward looked a threat on todays showing scoring 2 well earnt goals from Kyle Paevie and Mike Edgar both coming on from the bench to add competition for places for Tuesdays game away to high flying Enfield. Once again the workrate was 1st class from all the lads on show. Saturday 7th January ESL Att:078 Burnham Ramblers 2 Bsildon United 0 After the long holiday break Basildon were always in the game on a super surface at Leslie Field. Bees had an early chance when Agard hit straight at the keeper following some good build up play on the right hand side involving the impressive Hunwicks. A corner was once again the undoing for bees on 17 mins as Burnham hit home from close range. Paevie was always a threat with his pace and had the home defence backing away but could only hit wide on 2 occasions. The second half had Bees pushing for a leveller Paevie twice having chances hitting over and just losing out at the vital point with the goal unguarded. Ryan Madder was sent off for Bees for 2 bookings by a fussy official when the Burnham number 11 could have easilly been also red carded for two flare ups earlier in the game. Durrell then made a fine save at the feet of the home striker. With Bees pushing in the final mins a good cross and finish from close range gave the scoreline an unfair look as burnham grabbed a 2nd. Saturday 17th December ESL Att:037 Basildon United 0 Witham Town 3 A poor 1st half display against the best team to have played Bees in recent weeks ended in a 3-0 half time lead for the visitors. It could have been different as Basildons Pavie had two early efforts to give Bees the lead. The second half was slightly better but the damage had already been done. The gulf in difference was there for all to see as Witham showed why they are top of the table. The scoreline could have been worse had it not been for a man of the match performance from Durell in the home goal making a string of fine saves. Saturday 10th December ESL Att:042 Bethnal Green 3 Basildon United 2 Basildons best display since Wood has been in charge on a superb surface would see the Bees very unlucky not to come away with at least a point and could have been all three in a game full of quality football which suggests a win is around the corner. Despite going an early goal behind the visitors were always dominating possesion in the opening half against a Bethnal side full of ryman league quality. Bees drew level with a well taken finish from Edgar cutting in from the left hand side and slotting home. Matthews and Pooley along with (scotty parker) Aggio were always pulling the strings in the middle. New signings Willsmer and Agard had some nice touches and look good additions with Agard linking play well. The second half had the green machine up a level from the kick off playing some quick passing. Basildon held firm and had a great chance to go infront Wilsmer crossing low for Edgar to have two attempts one well saved and the rebound put inches wide. Bethnal went up the other end and from an unmarked corner headed home to go in front. Back came the Bees and deservedly drew level again this time Aggio drifting across the 18 yard box before cooly slotting home into the left corner with only mins remaining. Basildon pushing for a winner hard had Green camped in their last third. Once again a break away would be the undoing with time nearly up to break Basildon hearts as bees went down eventually 3-2. Great performances all round made it a hard one to take but the lads can be pleased with their display. Tuesday 6th December GBT Att: 028 Basildon United 1 Hullbridge Sports 3 A good start to the game had Basildon taking the game to the visitors having good spells of fluid possession which ended in the opening goal a good Painter cross superbly headed home by Baines from 8 yards. Bees continued to play some really attractive football with Matthews pulling the strings in midfield during the opening half hour. Hullbridge could have been reduced to 10 men when a high lunge on Aggio could have had the midfielder with a broken leg and quite easilly been punished with a red card. The visitors were only looking a threat from set plays with the excellent Gillam always putting quality crosses in. It was from a succession of corners that the leveller came from close range. The 2nd came straight away another corner would put Sports in front on the stroke of half time. Second half had more Basildon nice football but the need for a good striker is evident as chances were never taken. Sports grabbed a 3rd midway through the half to once again show nice play gets nothing in this league. Saturday 26th November ESL Att:018 Harringey & Waltham 2 Basildon United 0 Another bad result but it has to be said that the play at times is of a good standard by the Bees and if chances were taken it could have been a much different story. A goal down midway through the opening half straight from a Basildon attack when Ade should have scored shooting straight into the keepers arms on a one on one. The hosts going up the other end and instantly scoring after Bansor was easilly brushed aside with the Harringey forward finishing well from 12 yards. The second half saw chances come a plenty 2 goalmouth scrambles, also twice Edgar should have done better when put clean through. Before once again against the run of play with Bees forcing the game getting caught on the counter in the dying moments of the game. Saturday 19th November ESL Att:034 Basldon United 0 Barking 4 After a decent start 2 goals were given to the away side to set them up for a deserved half time lead. Despite the hardworking performances across the park from many Basildon players the second half would see many chances come and go for the Bees with poor finishing and two superb saves from Clark in the visitors goal. Durrel who was at fault for the opener made a string of fine saves in a half that had the Bees with most of the possesion but once again without a clinical edge to their game in front of goal. Tuesday 15th November League Cup Att 012 Basildon United 3 Clapton 1 Bee's totally dominated the early stages of the game and 3 goals in the space of 18 first half minutes from Edgar, Cody and Aggio had the game well won before half time. Clapton did force a late reply in the second half but the game was already won which moves Basildon into the last eight of the competition. Saturday 12th November ESL Att 078 Southend Manor 4 Basildon United 0 Basildon matched unbeaten Manor for all of the 1st half with both sides hitting the post. A well disciplined performance by the team would see the sides go in level at the break. Despite an upbeat half time talk Manor showed their class and early second half goals made all the hardwork of the opening period seem wasted. Overall an improved performance which if seen again on Tuesday will hopefully see the Bees go through against Clapton in the league cup. Weds 9th November ESL Att 029 Basildon Utd 2 London Apsa 3 A good opening period was soon undone by 2 basic errors and one wonder strike to give Apsa a 3-0 half time lead. The second half was a different story as Basildon camped in the visitors half sub Baines hit a good low shot from 20 yards into the bottom corner to give Basildon hope with 25 mins remaining. A scrambled second came from Cody after good work on the left side. Still ten to go the Bees pushing hard for a point and it should have came the home side hit the post and had two efforts saved at point blank range by the Apsa keeper. Manager Wood said 'take away the basic errors and we would have won all 3 games by now but instead we are left with just one point from 9' he added 'we must be at our best on Saturday when we travel to Southend Manor'. Sat 5th November ESL Att 031 Hullbridge 2 Basildon utd 2 scorers: wood,ade. Basildon fought back after being 2-0 at the break to grab a deserved draw with a robust second half performance which pleased manager Wood. Good work from Paevie holding off 3 challenges lead to the forward being hauled down in the box which Wood calmly netted from the resulting spot kick. Pressure was building on the home side with Bees constantly in the hosts half. Sub Mike Edgar cut into the box from the left to pull the ball across goal for new signing Dave Ade to net from 5 yards to give the Bees a well earnt point.
