The Bees got off to the perfect start when Chinedu Duru pounced on a mistake to open the scoring inside the first ten minutes, following excellent work from Reece McGovern on his first start. Basildon doubled their advantage in the 24th minute when Bade Aleketu got the crucial touch from a dangerous Spiros Lagopodis corner. Clapton pushed for a way back into the game after half-time, but the Bees stood firm.
