Basildon United travelled to Woodside Park looking to secure their first away points of the season.

The Bees made three changes to the starting line-up, with Lochlain Murray, Peter Oyetunji and Joseph Agunbiade coming into the side in place of Reece McGovern, Chinedu Duru and Lesedi Mbegabolawe.

Both teams made a fast start, with chances being created at either end. Peter Oyetunji came close for Basildon with a glancing header that narrowly missed the target.

It was Benfleet who broke the deadlock in the 14th minute, with Mason Shave finding the back of the net. The hosts continued to threaten after taking the lead and created several further opportunities, but were unable to extend their advantage.

Basildon responded in the 22nd minute with a superb equaliser. Enriqu Kalsi delivered a perfectly weighted pass from a goal kick, sending Oluwatise Biyi-Akinsuyi through on goal. Tise showed great composure, taking the ball around the advancing goalkeeper before calmly finishing into an empty net.

The second half produced plenty of drama, with Basildon reduced to ten men in the 56th minute. Bade Aleketu was shown a second yellow card, leaving the Bees with more than half an hour to play a man down.

Despite the numerical disadvantage, Basildon continued to defend and threaten on the break and were rewarded for their efforts in the 84th minute. Spiros Lagopodis played Billy Boag through on goal, and the debutant kept his composure to fire home and give the Bees a 2–1 lead.

However, the advantage would last just four minutes. The referee awarded Benfleet a penalty in the 88th minute, much to the surprise of the Basildon players and supporters. Jacob Wiggins stepped up and converted from the spot to bring the hosts level.

The Bees had to withstand late pressure but showed plenty of determination to see out the remaining minutes and leave Woodside Park with a well-earned point.

Despite playing the majority of the second half with ten men, Basildon showed great character to come from behind and take the lead, securing their first away point of the season.
