The atrocious weather conditions at the weekend meant that only two games could be played in the Essex Senior League. The 4G pitch at The Harlow Arena meant that Basildon’s game against Enfield 1893 was one of the games to survive the rain.
The Bees came flying out of the blocks and only four minutes were on the clock when Darren Phillips was fouled in the box. Marcus Bowers stepped up and made no mistake from the spot.
The visitors were having the better of the possession and duly added a second on 26 minutes when Bowers’ long throw was flicked on to Jack Adlington who headed home from close range.
Still, the chances came for Basildon and a third goal came two minutes before half time. Bowers was in the thick of it again, this time charging down the goalkeeper’s attempted clearance before cheekily backheeling the ball past the hapless Enfield custodian.
Only three second half minutes had passed before it was four. Adlington grabbed a brace of his own, turning the ball home from the edge of the six yard box.
With the visitors well in control, Enfield began to enjoy more of the possession and began to fashion some chances of their own. These chances eventually resulted in a goal on the hour as Aundre Spencer fired home from distance.
With the game settled as a contest, neither side were able to add to their tally and The Bees returned to Basildon with three more points in the bag.
