Barkingside 0-2 Basildon United

Bees back to winning ways
Basildon United returned to winning ways against Barkingside at Cricklefield.
Marcus Bowers scored one and made the other as he started from the bench due to a slight groin strain.
The game took a considerable length of time to come to life. Basildon enjoyed much the better of the early possession but were not fashioning many chances, whilst Barkingside looked as if they could be dangerous on the counter attack given the opportunity.
Indeed the first genuine effort did not materialise until the 37th minute when Joe Skeels shot from distance was saved by Ryan Karrer in the Barkingside goal.
But it was in an action packed last five minutes of the half that The Bees took the lead.
Manager, Marc Harrison, was forced into a change on 41 minutes when Bowers was introduced to replace Charlie Kendall who had picked up a knock under an earlier heavy challenge and he had barely been on the pitch for three minutes when he was on hand to head home the opener from Skeels ball in.
The visitors resumed where they left off in the second half looking the more likely to score.
James Peagram and Mehmet Hassan has both gone close on 60 and 65 minutes respectively by the time that Tommy Barton headed against the post with quarter of an hour to go.
However, it was Barton who finally put the result beyond doubt with 86 minutes on the watch, as he nodded home Bowers long throw to score The Bees second and secure another valuable three points.
